New wheels for the Eonice’s wheelchair

Eonice con las ruedas nuevas

Eonice's new wheels

Eonice is 22 years old, and she is paralytic. She has grown up in a country humble family (as poor as all families here) from Costa do Sol, without many resources. Until now, he has made used of his arms as means of transport. Only a short period of time among 2004-2006, she used a tricycle pushed by her arms but, it broke so, he had to use only her arms since then.

She goes around 6 km every day to arrive at high school (3 km going and 3m coming) by mud, dust and full of holes paths. Therefore, she has to leave home 3 hours before class starts and she comes back home at night. The non-existence of public transport or known people owning car or motorbike makes her impossible to move very often.

Eonice was a Children’s Town student and she started high school last year. Her dream is to become a nurse some day. Nowadays, she is living with her brother, her sister-in-law and her two nephews. All of them are trying to survive working in the country.

Thanks to your collaboration, we could buy 3 new wheels, spares and chain for her “carrinha” (term they use to refer to the wheelchair). I would like to remark that never before, I saw a so happy person while receiving a gift.

Eonice wanted to thank all the contributors for their help: “Many thanks all of you for this gift. Nobody know the hardness of living in this conditions, without means and “walking” with my arms. From now on, I could have a “normal” life and I could get up later when going school or church.”

The amount invested in the “carrinha” was 1350 meticais (33 euros)
