Building works in Children’s Town football field

At the end of May, we started some improvements in Children’s Town football field. Due to the small dimensions of the field (55mx20m) and its bad conditions (full of holes, grass and stones) we considered it was appropriate to make some modifications in order we can enjoy football in better conditions.
The improvements were:

  • Increase of field dimensions (90×35)
  • Cut the grass
  • Take stones away from the field
  • Level the field with sand
  • Put a new goal (made of wood but with standard dimensions). The other is made of aluminum
  • Mark areas, midfield

These works were made by both teams, male and female team. The only cost was to buy and transport 4 tracks full of sand. It cost 10000 meticais (about 250 euros).

Obras en el campo de fútbol de Children’s Town

A finales del mes de mayo, se iniciaron algunas reformas en el campo de fútbol de Children’s Town. Debido a las pequeñas dimensiones del terreno de juego (55mx20m) y al mal estado de éste, lleno de hoyos y con muchas hierbas y piedras, se consideró oportuno comenzar con una serie de “modificaciones” en el terreno de juego, para así poder disfrutar del fútbol en unas mejores condiciones. Éstas consistieron en:

  • Aumento de las dimensiones del campo (90×35)
  • Cortar hierbas
  • Retirar piedras
  • Cubrir hoyos con arena y nivelar campo
  • Nueva porteria de fútbol (de madera pero con dimensiones reglamentarias). La otra es de aluminio
  • Marcar áreas, centro del campo, fueras de banda…..

Los trabajos fueron realizados conjuntamente por los miembros del los equipos masculino y femenino de fútbol. El único gasto que tuvimos fue el de la compra  y transporte de 4 camiones de arena, que fue de 10.000 meticais (250 eu).

Collaboration with Ummu Salma Orphanage in Machava

Last 10th May, the collaboration with Ummu Salma Orphanage in Machava started. I received a suggestion from my friends Rafa and Linda (working also as volunteers in Technical College in Machava). They suggested to work with this orphanage as sponsor. After thinking about it, visiting the orphanage and seeing it is not an excessive cost to that can affect CT, I decided to accept.

The help consists on an economical support (400 meticais = 10 euros every week) to buy food and fruit 3 days per week. Therefore, children from orphanage can have varied and different dinners.

In case we find more sponsors in a future (we are only 4 at this moment), we will increase the days with prepared and varied dinner. For the moment, we are waiting for the reply of different people.

The orphanage is made up of 21 children from 7 to 20 years who go to school in the nearest centers. All of them are orphans or have been abandoned and they are all Muslims. They would like to increase the number of places up to 50.

Ummu Salma center is an orphanage placed in Machava where there are 21 children (any girl) from 7 to 20 years old. Children live there as boarding pupils and they go to the nearest shcools.

The collaboration is not only in economic terms but also, we will offer free help with:

  • Community instructors (youngers with minimum studies who are doing social services as teachers in deprived rural communities)
  • Students of Agriculture in order they can cultivate and take care of the orchard in the orphanage

*These two groups are students from Technical College so, it will be also an oportunity for them to practise.

We are also thinking about buying some mosquito nets since most of them don’t have.

Colaboración con el Orfanato Ummu Salma de Machava

El dia 10 de Mayo empezó la colaboración con el Orfanato Ummu Salma de Machava.

A través de mis amigos Rafa y Linda (los cuales también trabajan de voluntarios en la Escuela Politècnica de Machava), recibí una sugerencia para colaborar con este orfanato como esponsor. Despues de valorar la propuesta, hacer una visita al orfanato y ver que no supone un gasto excesivo por semana que pueda perjudicar a CT , decidí aceptar.

La ayuda consiste en soporte econòmico (400 meticais-10 euros x semana) para la compra de comida y fruta 3 dias por semana, con la que se les prepara una cena variada y diferente a los niños.

En caso de encontrar mas esponsors en el futuro (sólo somos 4), se aumentaria el número de días en los que se prepara la cena. Actualmente estamos a la espera de contestación de diversas personas para que colaboren con nosotros.

El orfanato cuenta con 21 niños de 7 a 20 años, los cuales asisten a escuela a los centros escolares mas próximos. Todos ellos son huérfanos de padre y madre o han sido abandonados. En el futuro pretenden aumentar el número de plazas hasta 50. Todos ellos practican la Religión Musulmana.

El centro Ummu Salma es un orfanato situado en Machava que da cabida a 21 niños (no hay niñas) de edades comprendidas entre 7 y 20 años. Los niños viven allí en régimen de internado, y acuden a aulas a las escuelas situadas a los alrededores.

Pero la colaboración no es sólo a nivel económico, si no que también se les prestará ayuda de forma gratuita con:

  • Instructores Comunitarios ( jóvenes con estudios mínimos de secundaria, que prestan un servicio social, como docentes en comunidades rurales marginadas).
  • Estudiantes de Agricultura, para cuidar y cultivar un jardín-huerto en el mismo orfanato.

*Estos dos grupos de jóvenes son estudiantes de la Escuela Politécnica y también será una buena manera de realizar prácticas para ellos.

Se está trabajando también para la compra de redes mosquiteras para los jóvenes del centro, ya que algunos no disponen de ellas.
